As you may have heard me say, prior to my son’s cancer diagnosis, I had never experienced or even used essential oils. However, thanks to my sister who is also a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and my friend, Pamala, who is a Naturopathic Doctor, that quickly changed.
With the unexpected health crisis, I was desperate to try anything!
So, they gave us some simple instructions and explanations on how to help improve his immune function, reduce inflammation and support any digestive related issues that might arise.
And you know what…it worked!
This then led me to dig deeper on my own to begin to truly understand the science behind the oils.
So, here’s some important facts about essential oils that might help you:
- An essential oil is derived from an aromatic plant. Typically, this is done through a careful steam distillation process.
- Essential oils are 50% – 70% more powerful than their dried counterpart. For example, 1 drop of Peppermint Essential Oil is equivalent to drinking 28 cups of Peppermint Tea.
- Essential oils have hundreds of different compounds in them, and each compound can have a different benefit. For example, Peppermint Essential Oil is great for supporting an upset stomach, tension aches and increasing alertness.
- Applying essential oils topically, specifically on the bottoms of the feet, allows the oils to enter the bloodstream within 30 seconds, and because the feet have the largest pores and the blood flows upwards toward the heart, this topical location makes for an effective place for application.
- Each body has trillions of cells, and these cells are the tiny motors that keep us alive and thriving. Each cell also has a cell membrane, which acts as the protective layer to the mitochondria or the inside of the cell. Additionally, viruses live on the inside of a cell and bacteria and fungi live on the outside of the cell. So, in order to penetrate the cell membrane, which is composed of fat, the body needs a fat-soluble source. However, essential oils are lipids, which means that they can penetrate the cell membrane and help to maintain the integrity of the immune system!

For the cell support blend I have Frank, Lemongrass, Myrrh and then I only have regular sandalwood..will that work? My brother has just been diagnosed with advanced mouth/throat cancer. We start chemo sometime this week. Thanks
Hi Grace – I’m so sorry that I am just now seeing this question. Yes, that will work just fine, and I do hope your brother is doing well!
My 4 year old grandson has ALL & has just began his chemo & steroid treatments. He is having horrible moodiness, stomach aches & constipation. What essential oils are there to help kick the side effects of his treatments. This is a 2 year process & very heartbreaking, especial;y for his mom. Thank you.
Hi Cindy – I’m so sorry to hear all that you and your family are going through! The blends in this post would be a great place to start. Prayers to you!
I feel that the clean diet had a lot more to do with your son’s recovery than the oils did. I am glad you continued with his chemotherapy and other treatments.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I believe that both are so critically important and made a huge impact!
I believe you’re being cavalierly dismissive about the potential benefits of essential oils. I, too was very skeptical and my husband even more so, yet we have both had some great results using oils and both our physicians agree they have real, documented benefits for some conditions.
Hello Season
I enjoy your newsletter’s and you are very educated on oils, even though I do not have cancer.
My question is I can you use all three blends at the same time and if you can how would you apply them? For instance if I am flying, which I have not in awhile, I tend to get anxious and then I would definitely want to apply the Immune Blend. I also get constipated pretty much on a regular basis, my Mother had the same problem. Would I use this blend at just at night and where would I apply it.
I do have a friend that has Melanoma and was going through Immunotherapy but has had a lot of complications from it, one is diabetes which apparently can be a side effect. I gave her your information and one of your blends but I feel she is overwhelmed. Is there anything specfic she can start with?
Thank you
Kathy Olivero
Hi Kathy – Thanks for the kind words and am glad that you find the info I share to be helpful. As far as using them all at the same time, yes you can…and as far as where to apply them, I would still recommend applying them in the same places as listed above. For your friend, I’m so sorry to hear all that’s she going through, and that’s the benefit of oils…they are so simple to use while you’re trying to manage so many things, clean up the diet, detox, etc. So, yes, essential oils would be a great place to start..and for her to do what she can. 🙂 I hope that helps! Thanks!
I have been applying copaiba, orange and sage EO topically for several years as I chose to contain my cancers with less aggressive therapies. My tumours have been stable, with no proliferation or metastasis for a little over 5 years. Are there other EO you could suggest as beneficial for breast cancer and neuro endocrine tumours? Would thyme or myrrh be a good addition? Thank you!
Hi there – The oils listed on this page would be a great place to start. I also posted an image on my Instagram account for breast support that you might find helpful…you’ll just have to scroll through the images, but it’s entitles “Boobies’ on it. 🙂 I hope that helps!
