I love this quote by Dr. Mark Hyman…“Food has the power to heal us. It is the most potent tool we have to help prevent and treat many of our chronic diseases.”
Now, keeping in that in mind, let me ask you…if you owned a Ferrari, would you fill it up with unleaded gasoline?
Heck, no!
That Ferrari is an intricately made, very expensive and high-powered machine. You’d only use the premium fuel…well, if you want it to last, that is.
So, how can it be that most people don’t consider that there’s a relationship with the food (aka. fuel) they put into their body and how well their body functions?
God created us with trillions of cells in our body and each cell has receptor sites for certain nutrients, i.e. fats, carbohydrates, proteins, etc. This wasn’t done by coincidence. It was done out of intelligent design. And the creator knew that we needed nutrients to keep us healthy and strong!
I mean…your gut, which is the receptor of the food (fuel) you take in, is actually in charge of over 80% of your immune system. And your immune system is the system that proactively fights disease if you’re strong enough or reactively fights disease if you’re sick.
All this to say, what you eat plays a major role in your ability to not just THRIVE through cancer, but it also improves your chances of beating this disease!
So, what foods should you not consume when fighting cancer?
Well, you want to be sure to not consume foods that will compromise the immune system and/or feed the cancer cells.
Here are 5 foods to stay away from:
- Sugar
- Artificial sweeteners
- White sugar, brown sugar, powdered sugar, beet sugar

- Grains
- Wheat, oats, corn and rice are the most commonly consumed grains.
- The only time grains can be healthy is when they’re in their whole form and have been prepared using traditional methods, such as soaking, sprouting and/or fermenting. Here’s more information about this.
- Conventional Animal Products
- Meat, eggs, dairy, seafood that are not grown on a pasture, raised in their natural habitat and given only organic feed.
- Dairy should only be consumed if it’s organic, raw and/or cultured. Here’s an article about raw milk.
- Dirty Dozen Produce
- These are the produce items that absorb the most pesticides when not grown organically. Therefore, you should always make sure you’re only consuming organic in the following list!
- Strawberries
- Spinach
- Kale
- Nectarines
- Apples
- Grapes
- Peaches
- Cherries
- Pears
- Tomatoes
- Celery
- Potatoes

- Soy
- Almost all soy is genetically modified. It can also create estrogen dominance, which is often a trigger for estrogen-based cancers. The only form of soy that can be beneficial to your health is fermented soy, such as natto or some organic tempe.
