When my son, Kicker, was diagnosed with cancer at 3 years old, we immediately locked arms with our team of holistic practitioners, and they put him on a therapeutic protocol complete with supplements and essential oils that benefited his specific needs.
In addition to his regular chemotherapy, he probably took 30 supplements a day (in the form of capsules, as well as, liquid) during his 3.5-year treatment, and we didn’t lighten up on this until he was about 1.5 years post treatment.
Now, we support him and his big sister every day with a nutrient dense diet, an essential oil routine and the supplement protocol listed at the bottom of this post.
However, before we get to their daily supplement protocol, I need to address an important question that you may have:
“How do I know if my child needs to supplement with vitamins?”
Well, to better understand the answer to this question, let’s consider a few facts that are common amongst almost every child:
Lack of variety in diet:
Many of the necessary and vital nutrients your child needs for a healthy body, strong bones, and brain development are found in:
- fresh, organic veggies
- organically raised animal products
- oysters
- eggs
- liver
- leafy greens
- fermented foods
However, most kids are not likely to consume these nutrient rich foods and instead they tend to consume a lot of processed grains, sugars and juices. Therefore, because they don’t get enough of the vitamins and minerals they need, supplementation is essential.
Environmental factors:
In this day and age, there is a lot of change in our environmental conditions. For example:
- pesticides
- genetically modified organisms (GMO’s)
- pollution
- electromagnetic fields (EMF)
- climate changes
As a result, not only are we losing the minerals and nutrients in our soil, in our air and of course, in our food supply, but things like GMO’s, are extremely toxic to your health, especially to your growing children.se
Did you know that upwards of 85% of the foods that are most commonly consumed by children are genetically modified?! (i.e. cereal, crackers, cookies, snack bars, soy milk and baby formula)
Exposure to stress:
According to the American Psychological Association, kids are experiencing significantly more stress today than they were 50 years ago!
Here are some of the common stress triggers amongst children:
- school pressures
- relationships with peers
- family financial struggles
- social media
Not only are these triggers causing more psychological stress on our kids than ever before, but when their body is under stress, they can’t properly digest their food or absorb the needed nutrients.
Excess sugar in the diet:
The National Cancer Institute has found that children between the ages of 4-8 years old are consuming on average, 22 teaspoons of sugar every day!
That’s insane!
It also explains the sudden rise in childhood obesity and diabetes, because not only does excess sugar consumption lead to disease, but it also inhibits the absorption of necessary nutrients from our diet.
All this to say, it’s more important now than ever to make sure our kids are getting the necessary nutrients their little bodies need to thrive.
So, here is Selah and Kicker’s current supplement protocol:
- Thorne Vitamin D/K2 – This is one of the most important supplements to help support healthy bones, muscles and heart health. It’s also very important to take Vitamin D with K2, as it allows the body to properly absorb and direct calcium where it needs to go. (Follow the dosage recommendation, and you can order it from Biodynamic Wellness.)
- PB Assist Jr. – This is a great probiotic supplement with over 5 billion live cells of a unique blend of 6 probiotic strains. It supports our kids gut health, which helps with eliminating food and environmental allergies, supports emotional/cognitive function and builds a healthy immune system. (They take this 3x/week, and you can order through doTERRA.)
- Champ Pro – We actually alternate our probiotics to introduce different strains of bacteria to the gut. Did you know that we are more bacteria than human? Therefore, it’s important to continue to feed our body with the good bacteria to help it defeat the harmful bacteria. This specific probiotic works to clear the “hard to eliminate bacteria” in the body and modulates the immune system. They take this 3x/week on the opposite days they take the PB Assist Jr. (Follow the dosage recommendation, and you can order it from Biodynamic Wellness.)
- Quicksilver Vitamin C – This is a very important nutrient to help kids regulate cortisol. (Cortisol helps manage the stress responses in the body. It’s also very helpful for brain health and has cancer fighting properties. (Follow the dosage recommendation, and you can order it from Biodynamic Wellness.)
- Quicksilver Glutathione – Glutathione is the most powerful detox nutrient known today. Coffee enemas are a great way to stimulate the production of glutathione; however, kids are unlikely to do a coffee enema. So, this supplement is a great way to keep their bodies healthy and proactively detoxify. (Follow the dosage recommendation, and you can order it from Biodynamic Wellness.)
- Quinton Isotonic Mineral – This is a very beneficial supplement because it contains up to 78 essential minerals and trace elements that the body relies on for supporting cellular health. It also helps keeps kids hydrated and promotes healthy levels of energy. (They take this 4x/week.)
- OnGuard Softgel – This powerful blend of essential oils supports the immune system. Once my kids began regularly taking these, they were sick less and recovered more quickly when they did become ill. (Follow the dosage recommendation, and you can order through doTERRA.)
- If your child can’t swallow pills, use 1 drop of the following oils topically onto the bottoms of each foot with 1 tsp of Fractionated Coconut Oil: OnGuard, Lemon, Tea Tree, Frankincense, Oregano.
- Paleo Valley Organ Delight – This is one of the best sources of B Vitamins, Iron and Amino Acids! I know that most people, especially kids, don’t love the taste of organ meats. So, this supplement is a great alternative. (Follow the dosage recommendation.)
- If your child can’t swallow pills, add a chunk of frozen, raw, organic, grass-fed beef liver to their fruit smoothies. I promise, they won’t taste it at all, but they’ll get all of the good benefits.
One last thought…
I tried to answer the most common question I receive at the top of this post. However, what did I miss? Do you have another supplement question(s) that I can answer? Share in the comments, and I will be glad to help. Thanks!

Thank you for your post. What supplements do you recommend for breastfeed newborns, infants and toddlers?
Hi Cara – Check out the video that I did on Facebook…I answered this question there. 🙂 Here’s the link: https://www.facebook.com/seasonmjohnson/videos/1073427919490779/ Thanks!
Do we need to give all of these?
Hi There – Check out the video that I did on Facebook…I gave suggestions there. 🙂 Here’s the link: https://www.facebook.com/seasonmjohnson/videos/1073427919490779/ Thanks!

Hi Lina – Check out the video that I did on Facebook…I answered your questions there. 🙂 Here’s the link: https://www.facebook.com/seasonmjohnson/videos/1073427919490779/ Thanks!
Hi Season♥️ I have absolutely fallen in love with your Instagram!!! I discovered you through Doterra. I’m a fitness/health nut…have always taken the basics…D, C, juice plus, probiotic, multi vitamin since I had surprise baby at 39!!! I’m a newbie to Doterra and have been encouraged to try their supplements! I’m on pretty clean, high quality ones but decided to order and try😊 My question is…one, I’m hoping they are super high quality, are they? (will still take outside source of D in addition to) AND do I give my almost 3 year old any of the supplements u suggested or is she too young? My 17yr old son and 13 yr old daughter have been on my same regiment…just wasn’t sure about baby?
Hi Courtney – Thanks so much for your kind words! 🙂 And yes, we love their LLV. 🙂 Also, check out the video that I just did on Facebook because I address some of your questions there. Here’s the link: https://www.facebook.com/seasonmjohnson/videos/1073427919490779/ Thanks!
I am looking to order all the supplements you give your children❤ The paleo valley organ delight – I cant find anything with that name on their site. All I see is grassfed organ complex… is this the same thing? Also do you and your husband take this also? I have 5 children ranging in age from 3 to 17. I’m curious if I should follow the same basic supplement protocol for them all. I wonder if I order the six bottles if we were used them all before they expire. Any comments on that? And Would you ever do a blog post on what you and your husband take each day? 🙂 Or maybe you have that posted somewhere already. Thank you so much for all you do!
And as I see In Above comments you direct them to Facebook. I don’t have Facebook and try to stay off Instagram so I’d love answers directly ❤️
Hi Janna – Sorry for the confusion…yes, those are the same supplements for Paleo Valley. As far as your question about adult supplements and age…and because you don’t have FB :)…I would highly recommend that you watch the video on my Youtube channel. Here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwYM8Hh-w3I But you may also want to cut back on doses for your younger kids. And as far as to how long they will last, I’m so sorry because I haven’t had that on my radar. You should be good with the number of people taking them, but maybe look at the bottle at amounts and do some quick math. 🙂 Thanks!
Awesome!!! Thank you so much for the quick reply!
🙂 You’re Welcome!
I bummed that in order to actually order some of those supplements you have to have a consult with a nutritionist. It’s not possible to just purchase the supplements?
Jada
Hi Jada – Actually, that’s not completely true. Yes, you do have to be a client for their Standard Process and Biotics products, but not for the others. So, just give them a call and they can help you out with these. Thanks!
On biodynamic wellness site, where do you order the supplements you are naming? I can’t find them on the website. Thank you
Hi Roxy – You have to actually give them a call to place the order. 🙂 Thanks!
Season,
Can you tell me what you would recommend for a daily adult routine?
Andrea
Hi Andrea – I’m working on a post with this information…so just keep checking back. 🙂 Thanks!
Hi there, love this post. Thank you so much for sharing. What are your thoughts on DōTERRA’s kids vitamins?
Thanks so much, Cecelia! Have you watched the FB Live that I did? I address that there…I think towards the end. 🙂 Here’s the link: https://www.facebook.com/seasonmjohnson/videos/1073427919490779/ Thanks!
Thanks for the great post. Wondering if either of the probiotics you mentioned also contain prebiotics? I’ve been told that probiotics are generally ineffective if you are not taking them with prebiotics to support them. Thank you!
Hi Chelsea – I’m pretty sure that the Champ Pro has both, as well as, the adult PB Assist+. However, the PB Assist Jr. does not. But I would recommend doing a little “Google” search to make 100% sure. 🙂
Hi Season,
I too am a DōTERRA wellness advocate and couldn’t agree more with your post! I absolutely love your IG feed by the way. Our littles are all MTHFR compound heterozygous and while we’ve been doing the PB assist Jr for some time, what are your thoughts on the chewable vitamins and IQ mega? Is like to support their little bodies in the best way we can with detox and mineral/vitamin supplemetation, because, well, life… and I can’t follow them around with kale, so I know they’re lacking. Thank you in advance!
Hi Tina – Thanks so much for your kind words! Have you watched the FB Live that I did? I address your questions…I think towards the end. 🙂 Here’s the link: https://www.facebook.com/seasonmjohnson/videos/1073427919490779/ Thanks!
So my daughter is being treated for leukemia as we speak. We were told she couldn’t have any supplements. How do I know which ones will or won’t interfere with her treatment? (She’s 13 months)
Hi Abri – Thanks for asking this 🙂 Because everyone is biochemically individual, I would actually recommend that you work with a practitioner to navigate this. This would allow you to work with someone who can know exactly what’s going on with your daughter and get the specific support that she needs. If looking for someone, I would recommend http://www.biodynamicwellness.com. Thanks!
